2. I don't know how to categorize "Maltreatment dimensions," so I used "Social Works" as a subject guide.

2. I entered "Maltreatment dimensions"

3. It hit 5 results.

4. I could get limited results, so I think it is unnecessary to narrow my term; however, if I got more than 100 results, I would use Boolean or change the phrase.

5. I would determine them by checking their abstract and keywords or by C.A.R.D.I.O.

6. I chose "The dimensions of maltreatment: Introduction."

7. I determined it is meaningful for fitting my topic well. I read the abstract and it shows exactly what I want know.
In addition, this article was put on the top of the results list, so I felt it might be useful at first.

1. I entered "Maltreatment dimensions."

2. I retrieved 5 results.

3. I could get only several results in this time. However if there were more than about 100 results, I'll use search options like search models and limit your results. Or I'll use Advanced Search.

4. I noted "view links" tool. It is very useful. When I used "ProQuest Newspaper" I didn't find such a good tool.

5. I'll check that abstract or supplied keyword and subject. If they suit on my topic, I determine they are meaningful.

7. I checked that abstract, subject terms, and Author supplied keywords, and then I decided it is meaningful.

4. I narrowed my topic with suggestions in topic guide.
"neglect" - 148438 > "Child abuse & neglect" - 41945 > "Murders & murder attempts" - 7043 > "Babies" - 361 > "mothers" - 11 > "teenagers" - 1 result

5. As you can see, I could get 1 result with topic guide. In topic guide, I chose a term that I want to know and related with my topic. I entered what I want to know, so it completely matches to my topic because it includes all information I searched.

3. The major differences among these articles are the context, the composition, and the source of articles I feel.
"Newsweek" has a picture attracted readers and interview in the article.
"American Bar association Journal" looks like reference book with many informational examples.
"Journal of Chemical Ecology" has statistical article.

4. The major differences among these periodicals is almost same what I wrote as articles.
"Newsweek" is the most popular book because of the components like many pictures, variety of information, rankings , and interviews. On the other hand, lest of "American Bar association Journal" and "Journal of Chemical Ecology" publish more professional articles. The major difference between these periodicals is the way to write articles. "American Bar association Journal" writes many examples? articles? about topic; meanwhile, "Journal of Chemical Ecology" put many graph or statistics on articles.

- What was decided in Kyoto protocol?
As Ms Aline says, "Human ecology" is still broad topic, so I narrowed it to "Kyoto protocol" because that is related with Ecology today.

- I chose "Kyoto protocol" because it is a proper noun, so it shows exact information I thought.

- This a reference book gives me directly the exact information I wanted to know; on the other hand, a regular book takes time to find the information, besides it sometimes doesn't cover basic information but only an entirely information I guess.

- 2008. When I check the material in the library, it says it was published in 2008.

What I wanted to search was different with my topic "Ecology system in Japan today," maybe because of my English skill, so I changed my topic to "Ecology movement for Global warming." This is what I really want to search.

- Subject heading search has fewer entries than keyword search. However it didn't match to my topic at this time.

- I don't think so.

c) Why?
- Because subject heading search is difficult for people who is not good at English especially me. For hitting exactly what I want to search, I need grammar. In my case, I prefer to keyword search.

Difference between subject heading search and keyword search.
- Keyword search is just searching the keyword, so its entries becomes larger.
On the other hand, subject heading search is more limited. So if you have clear subject heading, it had better use it to hit exact information. I think you can use both by your situation. I mean that as I wrote, if you have clear goal, you had better use subject heading search, and if you have vague idea, you had better use keyword search because it may give you some new idea about a topic.
